I don't know if anyone has heard about the 'controversy' over putting the USS Iowa in SF to become a museum but Hannity and Colmes had someone named Geraldo Sandoval on their show last night. This guy is on the board of supervisors there and voted against the ship. He also said we should not have a military. Anyway, even Colmes started arguing with him about it and it was pretty funny. aboutkillings and torture in Dujail after the attempt to assassinate Saddam.
AliHassan Mohammed al-Haidari, who was 14 in 1982...Al-Haidari... testified that
seven of his brothers were executed by Saddam's regime and their bodies have not
been found.Al-Haidari said that he and other residents from Dujail — including
family members — were taken to Baghdad and thrown into a security services
prison, where people from "9 to 90" were held. Blood poured from head wounds and
skin was pale from electric shocks, he testified. Security officials woulddrip
melted plastic hoses on detainees, only to pull it off after it cooled,tearing
skin off with it, he said."I cannot express all that suffering andpain we faced
in the 70 days inside," he said.

This is torture. Not extreme temperatures. Not humiliation. Not loud music. Not hoods over the head or empty threats. Not cold food. Not "water-boarding". Not insults. Not yelling at the prisoners. Not disrespecting their crutch of a religion. Even if none of that ever happened - do we care? Should we care?

If moveon.org, Michael Moore, and the rest of the bash the Bush crowd had a lick of sense, which they don’t, they would begin shooting the following commercial as soon as they can break away from their current anti-American activities;
Location; An immaculate living room, a roaring fireplace, with lots of family photos lined up on the mantle. Outside the living room window, the television viewer can see people waiting in long gas lines and rummaging through garbage cans for food.
Characters; A young girl, about the age of seven, seated on her grandmother’s lap.
Entry; Soft music plays as the commercial begins to appear on the screen, interrupted by the child, who begins a conversation with her grandmother.
(girl) “Gramma, tell me again, what was it like before President George W. Bush?”
(Grandma) “Oh, Sally, it was so different than today?”
(girl) “I like to hear you tell about it, Gramma!”
(Grandma) “Well, before George W. Bush, there was peace throughout the world. People of all nations lived in harmony. There was no need for weapons.”
(girl) “Really, Gramma, there were no guns before Bush?”
(Grandma) “Of course not, dear. George Bush and Halliburton invented guns right after the inauguration.”
(girl) “Wow, Gramma, all the countries used to get along?”

(Grandma) “He sure did, honey. He caused all the ice in the North and South Pole to melt, and pretty soon all dry land is gonna be covered with water. It’ll be just like that movie with Kevin Costner in it.”
(girl) “Oh, Grandma, isn’t there anyway we can stop the Bush Administration?”
(Grandma) “There sure is honey. There’s one person who can bring the world back to the stable, peaceful, near utopian conditions that existed before Bush and Cheney began their reign of terror.”
(girl) “Who, Grandma, who?”
(Grandma – standing up, walking to the mantle, and retrieving a picture frame) “There is only one person that can undo the curse Bush has put upon the planet. Her name is Hillary Clinton!” Grandma then shows a picture of Hillary Clinton to the young girl.
The commercial cuts to scene after scene of people rejoicing in the streets, money is falling from the sky, and lions are seen gently licking the faces of small children. Trees can be seen clapping, squirrels are perched upon every human shoulder, usually right next to a bluebird, and a computer graphic shows the North and South Pole ice returning to its normal, safe levels.
And just before the commercial cuts away, we hear the voice of an angel. “I promise to bring our nation, our world back to the society we knew before President George W. Bush. A society that did not know war, or terrorism, or hate, or hunger, or anything else that might make seem like a bad thing! So vote for me, and as a great leader named Pedro once said, I will make all of your wildest dreams come true!”
Commercial ends with a disclaimer.

With all the paranoid wierdness going on at the recent "anti-war rally" in Washington, I'm just surprised no one planted a bomb -- although "One man climbed over the White House fence and was quickly subdued by Secret Service agents."

What does it remind you of?
If you're incredulous over the striking resemblance to the Crescent of Islam, you're among many expressing growing outrage over the latest PC scandal. I'm wondering, as Charlie at
Little Green Footballs says, "Is this a coincidence, an example of exreme cluelessness, or something more deliberate?"
At the very least, it's an example of extremely poor taste.

Did I just say that?

Although I usually disagree with FNC 's Alan Colmes, I have to applaud him(and Sean) for
this segment of Hannity and Colmes last night. Professor Boyce Watkins, author of the book, "What if George Bush Were a Black Man?", was on defending looters.

Now, I can understand taking food and water, as Sean and Alan said, but this man would not answer whether or not he condoned, for instance, a plasma TV. Continually, he would change the subject("you can argue that we're looting in Iraq right now.") He was the most rambling, pointless interviewee I've seen in a long, long time.
Alan Colmes, although it was clear he agreed with the guy's politics, went after Watkins until he eventually did condone it. Before he condemmed it. Before he condoned it.

You get the idea.

Playing With The Facts At The New York Times

As reported tonight on The O'Reilly Factor, The New York Times has outdone itself. In this editorial, writer Allessandra Stanley found another way to criticize America's leading news source - while twisting the facts, of course. While saying all reporters are aware of, and openly deplore " . . . the government's failure to help the victims adequently, " and whining about the "inattentive Federal Government" she then took the initiative to slam the (hardly conservative) Fox News anchor Geraldo Rivera. She said, and I quote, "Fox's Geraldo Rivera did his rivals one better: yeserday, he nudged an Air Force rescue worker out of the way so his camera crew could tape him as he helped lift an older woman in a wheelchair to safety." The only problem is that isn't what happened at all. The average reader (if the Times has any readers who could be described as "average") is left to believe that Fox News in general, and Geraldo in particular, is rogue, uncouth, self serving, and mean(they would know.)
If you saw The Factor tonight when they showed the video, you could see that the video clip was taken completely out of context. The video showed Geraldo and another man walking down stairs, carrying a wheelchair containing an elderly lady. An Air Force rescue worker was standing near the wheelchair as the other man carrying it (who had the bottom of the wheelchair and most of the weight) got to the bottom. He'd moved by the time Geraldo had reached the bottom. Besides that, there was no way he could "nudge" anyone out of the way as he struggled down the stairs. No, I don't have any scientific proof that it wasn't a photo op, but it surely didn't look like it. He was just helping out; not even in the picture most of the video. I'm by no means a big fan of Geraldo , but to bring a baseless attack against him is simply wrong.
At least we know where the spin doesn't stop.

Have you seen the TV shows and movies made recently that are dealing with the subject of terrorism? They're eerily realistic, no? No. At least not in who the villians are. I saw a promo the other day for the new NBC political thriller The E-Ring. A fleeting glimpse of a "bad guy" caught my eye. Were the top Pentagon officials chasing Average Ahmed the terrorist? Hardly. The terrorists were Asian! (I'm sure not North Korean - probably Chinese - less polarizing y'know) To be fair I haven't seen the show so there could be Middle Eastern terrorists, too; they should've used them in their promo, though.
So anyway I did some research. You'd be surprised at how rarely the terrorists of the movies match the terrorists of reality. From Neo-Nazis, to Serbian, to more Asians, the bad guys/girls are quite an eclectic group; but rarely match the level of reality the rest of the show/movie does. I don't believe that all Middle Easterners should be shown as terrorists, or that threats can't come from anywhere, but the politically correct folks do need to lighten up a bit. Come on; Neo-Nazis?

Politicizing A Tragedy

This weekend, watching news specials about Katrina, something that really struck me was how much the the idea is being advanced that, as MSNBC said [many believe]“…Washington would have moved much quicker if it were rich whites in danger.”

Rapper Kayne West's comments say it all. During a benefit concert aired on NBC, he said
"George Bush doesn't care about black people" and said America is set up “to help the poor, the black people, the less well-off as slow as possible.”

Huh?

What about the mostly white, many upper-income families in Biloxi, Gulfport and Orange Beach communities?
As far as I know, federal help was just as slow in coming to them, yet no one is claiming racism about that.

Still, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D, Maryland) said, “We cannot allow it to be said by history that the difference between those who lived and those who died… was nothing more than poverty, age or skin color,” and the Mayor of New Orleans, Ray Nagin (D), said on radio, “get off you’re a--es and do something” about the “biggest g--d---n crisis in our history.” (In his defense, Nagin also responded to Diane Sawyer's ridiculously political question - "do you think the administration is trying to shift the blame to local governments" - by saying he didn't want to get into pointing fingers and "there's enough blame to go around".)
Of course, those going after Bush are another issue. On 20/20 phrases like “rare admission of failure” were used about George Bush.
Left wing site like this and this and are really unbelievable. A DailyKos poster even claimed that it was a conspiracy to kill black people!

Sure, FEMA has it's flaws. Big ones. But to insinuate that all the blame rests on Bush - and none on local governments - is ridiculous. And these people are not interested in genuinely questioning what happened. They will do anything to push racial tensions and get at Bush.
And that’s a shame.

Remembering Rehnquist

Chief Justice William Rehnquist has died.
A long defender of Conservative values, even on a sometimes liberal court, his Supreme Court career began when he was appointed to the Supreme Court as an associate justice in 1971 by President Nixon and was elevated to Chief Justice by President Reagan in 1986.

"A statement from the spokeswoman said he was surrounded by his three children when he died in Arlington.
"The Chief Justice battled thyroid cancer since being diagnosed last October and continued to perform his dues on the court until a precipitous decline in his health the last couple of days," she said."

Some tips if you plan to donate or volunteer:

1: Only non-perishable food items will be accepted. Shelters don't allow homemade, and some shelters don't allow food donations at all - always call ahead.

2: Don't answer unsolicited e-mail or calls offering ways to donate, many times these things are a scam - the best way is to go directly to the organization's web page. Even if it looks or sounds authentic, don't do it.

3: As I said before, you should call the local shelter ahead of time to determine the need. The last thing they want to be dealing with is way to much of one item.

4: Many times the most urgent need is not food, but people to help serve it. However, if you plan to go volunteer, keep in mind that while most evacuees are probably law-abiding citizens, a shelter is not the safest of situations because you never know who's there. If you're a kid, stick with your parents all the time.

5: Don't go to public message boards to see about taking in evacuees. Don't ever answer an e-mail/ post which says 'I'm an evacuee, can you send me your adresses/personal info etc.'

6: Right now it would be foolhardy to try to get a package into one of these devastated areas. If you do not have a sure-fire way that you know will get the supplies in(such as a relative nearby in a less damaged area) or you are not local, money is the best way to help.

7: Similar principles apply with donating money. Do not send it directly to the area; the only safe way is through a relief organization.

Last of all, use your common sense. Just think: these people have nothing, none of the basic necessities like toothbrushes, soap, and other essential toiletries. Ask yourself what you would want if it were you. What are some of the things you would take on vacation or camping? (Mosquito repellant might be a good thing to think about, as standing water breeds mosquitos, and West-Nile Virus is deadly -- of course, check beforehand.)
Then call, and volunteer or donate.

In a rambling interview, he called Cheney a 'sick man' and suggested that Donald Rumsfeld is actually running the country, rather than George Bush or Dick Cheney.

"Anti-war Mom"...

...is a title often applied to Cindy Sheehan these past few weeks. Even though Mrs. Sheehan has now temporarily left, she's still very much in the news.
First, let me start by saying this: I completely sympathize with Mrs. Sheehan's loss of her son. She has every right in the world to protest however she wants within the law.
But credibility is something seriously lacking in this tale. With glowing stories like this and this and this floating around in the mainstream press, a casual observer might be lulled into believing this is just another average Jane. And while conservatives like Sean Hannity have quoted some outrageous Sheehan statements, nothing equals actually reading a transcript of a speech or a web posting by Mrs. Sheehan. So, I headed over to the Veterans For Peace site. Right away I found this speech given a couple of months ago. It is a very enlightening speech as far as her mindset. Remember, these people at VFP are not "out to get her".
They support her and her cause and want to help her image.

'I got an email the other day and it said, "Cindy, if you didn't use so much profanity there's people on the fence' that get offended" And you know what I said? "You know what? You know what, g*d-d**mn-it? How, in the world is anybody still sitting on that fence'?" She also seized the occassion to call Bush a "lying b****rd" and say,
"I'm always so calm and everything, that's because if I started hitting something, I wouldn't stop til it was dead. So I can't even start, cause I know how dangerous that would be"

Greiving Mom? Definitely. Credible? I think not.

I couldn't believe my ears when I heard this. Participating in a march sponsored by Jesse Jackson protesting the requirement of a photo ID in Georgia - and outrageously comparing it to a repealment of the the 1965 voting act -, singer Harry Belafonte was asked about all the minorities Bush has appointed to high offices. Belafonte replied that there were a lot of Jews in Nazi positions and that "Bush is a tryant. He gathers around him black tyrants." TV's "Judge Mathis" was on tape screaming that Bush's admin were "criminals and thieves" and should be "locked up". And Cynthia Tucker wrote that: "GOP strategists have used dirty tricks against Native Americans, blacks, and Latinos... They've been doing it for years."
Race-mongering? You decide.

This just in:
America is no longer "one Nation under God" but, "one nation under your belief system". I kid you not. Michelle Malkin and the Washington Times report that students in Wheat Ridge CO were dumbfounded and confused when the voice over the intercom intoned the altered pledge.
Teacher Margo Lucero claimed she changed it on the "spur of the moment" as a way to try and be more inclusive on the anniversary of the Columbine shootings.
"He came home and told me about it after school, and he said, 'I just stood there, Mom. I didn't even know what to do. We all just stood there and didn't even finish it,'" one Mother reported her son as saying.
Political correctness has always been ridiculous in my eyes, and this is just another example of leftists being willing to make fools of themselves in order not to offend anyone. "Under your belief system"? Oh please.
